For the whole 9 months, you have been reading info from various resources that would help you in nursing your child. These info are not exclusive, so you think that you can actually have a step by step guide. The thing is, sometimes something goes wrong that you are not prepared for, like having Breastfeeding Engorgement or puerperal mastitis. A baby’s latching to one’s mother is pretty easy for some, but for soe new moms, there are instances where the baby does not want to latch on. My mom said that this happened to her with me. She had to pump my milk every so often. Engorgement is when pain is felt by the mother in her breasts and this normally happens when nursing is not done frequently and when the milk is not effectively pumped out of the body. Here are some tips though on how to prevent and avoid Breastfeeding Engorgement. First of all, as a new mom, you should know that nursing should be done frequently. It should be done every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours during the evening. Also, try to nurse for as long as possible in one breast before having the baby latch on to the other side. Have your breast relax and wear a bra that supports but does not stop it from receiving both blood and air circulation. And also, try to change positions during nursing so that you can effectively pump out all the milk. In between feedings, apply cold compress but do apply warm compress just before feeding to help the milk flow more readily. These are just some tips for the new moms out there. Don’t worry too much though. What’s important is to enjoy this new life with this wonderful little person in your arms.
